CrazyCee's POETRY CORNER I'VE GOT SUMTHIN TO SAY...

COMMITMENT

Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality.
It is words that speak boldly of our intentions,
And the actions which speak louder than words.
It is making the time when there is none,
coming through time after time, year after year after year.
Commitment is what character is made of;
It is the power to change the face of things.
It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism.

THE MISCONCEPTION OF HIP HOP

Riots, violence, robberies, shootings, gangs, thugs...keep reading down the list of crimes and it spells: H I P H O P! WOW! How and when did this happen? Hip Hop use to be SO INSPIRING, MOTIVATIONAL AND POSITIVE.
Now, anytime u mention the word HIP HOP to someone they get this misconception that some sort of violent crime is about to be committed. Ms. Gourdine was on a business discussing a potential facility to book for a future production called
"THE EVOLUTION OF HIP HOP PAST AND PRESENT."
Well after the rep received the info from Ms. Gourdine she hands me the phone to finish the call. The rep. lets me know that HIP HOP is BANDED from their facility because all it is, is a riot waiting to happen or someone getting killed.
I was upset at first but then I realized that this is what hip-hop means now!! MY goodness has this generation sank SO LOW that we are going back into slavery when all people thought about when it came to minorities is being criminals.

HIP HOP was about struggling to get OUT OF SLAVERY and racism, marching for our rights, voting, etc.
Now it's a JOKE. By Ms.Lozano

"What Happen To The Meaning Of HIP HOP"?

What happen to our culture? Where did our talent go? And WHY?
We talk about survival and we brag about the streets, what happen to the talent that once came from New York Streets?!
We did it go, and why did it leave us? I feel not only was I robbed but our youth today was deprived of real authentic talent!
What happen to the talent that once was New York City? We have become such followers now we don't even know talent anymore!
The trends, dance styles, slang and music we once created we have now lost and past it to other states.
We have allowed something we work so hard to master and create become tainted and commercialized for our youth to embrace.
New York use to reign supreme in all urban aspects now we are being left behind all real talent has fled!
We talk about our youth but who is left to educate them? If we are spending so much time forgetting about our history and the innovators who pave the way for us to even be able to have Hip Hop, what are we saying about our culture?
Is It extinct, or becoming so commercially misogynistic and sexual with booty shaking & degradation of women did we forgot the core of true hip hop and the master plan of the urban street culture?
What was our focus, plans, goals, struggles 30 YEARS AGO? KNOW YOUR HISTORY PEOPLE! READ...TO OBTAIN KNOWLEDGE! IT IS DEFINITELY POWER! CREATE CHANGE THAT IS SO NEEDED IN OUR YOUTH'S IGNORANCE TODAY, TEACH THEM ABOUT A 30 YEAR CULTURE THEY THINK THEY STARTED TODAY! AND HELP THEM LEARN! IT STARTS AGAIN WITH US...TO PASS IT ON & EDUCATE OTHERS! Did we really forget our agenda? 30 yrs of hip hop should not EVER BE FORGOTTEN! NEITHER SHOULD THE PEOPLE WHO HELPED, CREATED, MOLDED AND FOUGHT FOR THIS WONDERFUL ART FORM TO BE IN THE FOREFRONT TODAY!
Just a thought! We need a check up from the neck up FOR REAL!

BITCHOLOGY

When I stand up for my beliefs, and myself they call me a bitch.
When I stand up for those I love, they call me a bitch.
When I speak my mind, think my own thoughts or do things my own way, they call me a bitch.
Being a bitch means I won't compromise what's in my heart.
It means I live my life MY way. It means I won't allow anyone to step on me.
When I refuse to tolerate injustice and speak against it, I am defined as a bitch.
The same thing happens when I take time for myself instead of being everyone's maid, Or when I act a little selfish.
It means I have the courage and strength to allow myself to be who I truly am and won't become anyone else's idea of what they think I "should" be.
I am outspoken, opinionated and determined. I want what I want and there is nothing wrong with that!
So try to stomp on me, try to douse my inner flame, try to squash every ounce of beauty I hold within me.
You won't succeed.
And if that makes me a bitch, so be it.
I embrace the title and am proud to bear it.

Definitions of the word "BITCH" used so loosely and in negative ignorant comments, statements & playful banter.
FYI: Pass it on. Ladies knowledge is contagious.
The next time someone calls you out of your name and or you call someone out of their name think twice.
It means you have know other intelligent words to say, so next time try to say something nice instead of something easy, and degrading.

B - Babe
I - In
T - Total
C - Control of
H - Herself

B = Beautiful
I = Intelligent
T = Talented
C = Charming
H = Hell of a Woman

B = Beautiful
I = Individual
T = That
C = Can
H = Handle anything

"Work like you don't need the money. Travel through someone else's mind! And you may end up in their dreams…
Love like you've never been hurt.
Give like it is your last chance to live!
Dance like nobody is watching." And if they are LET THEM SEE…

IS THE WORLD OF HIP-HOP COLOR STRUCK? ARE YOU?!
I was waiting for a few friends one afternoon when I overheard a conversation between two guys. One of the men was commenting on a female that just walked by. I was used to hearing his first comment, " Dang shorty got a big a*%. But the next comment was and she's light too. I thought… could this guy be any more ignorant? The fact of the matter is your complexion (especially a woman's it seems) is very important these days. If you look at videos and TV shows its almost as if they did a paper bag test at the auditions. (Paper bag test- a system used to validate whether a black person was suitable by comparing his/her complexion to a paper bag). It's even so bad that it seems every female artist has to give a description of her nationality in the songs they sing. Why do I have to know or even care if you're mixed with black, Indian, and Asian, or half black and Puerto-Rican? Personally, I feel that society as a whole places too much of an emphasis on the issue of color. Pick people in videos for their talent, not their color. I feel ashamed to even say that about a culture started by black people, but I feel like it needs to be said. To fully understand this mentality, you have to understand where it comes from. In slavery days, lighter skinned slaves were allowed to work in the house, while the darker slaves were made to work out in the field. Since then there has been a fixation on complexion. I don't know why, you were still a slave. Anyway if the only reason you feel you are prettier or better than someone based only on your complexion, you're mentality is truly twisted. Everyone should be proud to be who and what they are, no matter what color, nationality or otherwise. I think people need to worry about their attitudes and personality, because if you're ugly inside, your ugly outside, no matter what color you are… Just food for thought.

Hip Hop Being Brought into the Spotlight Today...
We turn on the radio to one of our favorite hip hop stations and we hear "Shake that Laffy Taffy" or "Oh I Think they Like Me" and we find it catchy and easy to dance to so we like the song. Yes the music is catchy but what message is it sending to our generation? Why can't we hear more positive messages on our radio? Yes we have Kanye West but that's not the only artist that speaks the truth and releases a positive message. Some artists that we don't hear on the radio all the time are Common, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, Mos Def, De la Soul, and The Roots just to name a few artists. These artists are known but not by most people in our generation. Don't you think it's time that real hip-hop is put into the spotlight? Hip hop is not all about bling bling and how much paper you stackin, but a lot of people wouldn't know that cause that's what they are used to hearing but if we allow and get these artists popular you'll find out what hip hop was built on. Hip-hop was built not only by people and culture but by truth and realness. Sure if you've made it to the top like 50 cent your going to wanna flaunt and talk about all the cake you make but we have to realize as a generation coming up that that's not always what life is like. Not saying that all of the music today is not real but sometimes we really need to think about what the artists is saying and if it really needs to be said and put into young people's minds as a way of life. We really need to bring real hip-hop back because it's being hidden and it needs to shine through.

PHENOMENAL WOMAN by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies
I'm not cute or built to suit a model's fashion size
but when I start to tell them
they think I'm telling lies.
I say

It's in the reach of my arms
the span of my hips
the stride of my steps
the curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
that's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please
And to a man
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees
Then they swarm around me
A hive of honey bees.
I say

It's the fire in my eyes
and the flash of my teeth
the swing of my waist
and the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
that's me.

Men themselves have wondered
what they see in me
they try so much
but they can't touch
my inner mystery.
When I try to show them
they say they still can't see.
I say

It's in the arch of my back
The sun of my smile
The ride of my breasts
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
that's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed
I don't shout or jump about
or have to talk real loud
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say

it's in the click of my heels
the bend of my hair
the palm of my hand
the need for my care.
`Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
that's me.

THE ONE FLAW IN WOMEN

By the time the Lord made woman, he was into his sixth day of working overtime. An angel appeared and said, "Why are you spending so much time on this one?"
And the Lord answered, "Have you seen my spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic, have over 200 movable parts, all replaceable and able to run on diet coke and leftovers, have a lap that can hold four children at one time, have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart-and she will do everything with only two hands."
s The angel was astounded at the requirements.
"Only two hands!? No way!
And that's just on the standard model?
That's too much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish."
"But I won't," the Lord protested. "I am so close to finishing this creation that is so close to my own heart.
She already heals herself when she is sick AND can work 18 hour days."
The angel moved closer and touched the woman. "But you have made her so soft, Lord."
"She is soft," the Lord agreed, "but I have also made her tough. You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish."
The angel asked: "Will she be able to think?"
The Lord replied, "Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason and negotiate."
The angel then noticed something, and reaching out, touched the woman's cheek.
"Oops, it looks like you have a leak in this model. I told you that you were trying to put too much into this one."
"That's not a leak," the Lord corrected, "that's a tear!"
"What's the tear for?" the angel asked.
They smile when they want to scream. They sing when they want to cry. They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous. They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up to injustice. They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without so their family can have. They go to the doctor with a frightened friend. They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding.
Their hearts break when a friend dies. They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.
They bring joy, hope and love.
They have compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have vital things to say and everything to give.
HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN,
IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH.

My 1st True Love(HIP HOP)

When I fell in love with you it was a hard time in my life....
I was in a world of confusion, born in the early 70's raised in the 80's...
wanting to belong, wanting to be loved I searched high and low looking for love as far as the heavens above...
A love that will never judge me, a love that will never change, a love that will never leave in the heat of pain... A love that I can feel, A love that I can see, A love that will love me just for me!

Well I guess U would say damn, she need a man, but what u don't see is true love never dies, and my love for a man...
can be a passing faze but my love for HIP HOP is not just a craze it is a feeling of trust that has me in a daze!

When I hear the beat of hip hop it moves through my body and takes over my soul and vibrates down to my feet that is when I lose
control and the bass kick takes a hold of my mind, body & soul.

MY LOVE, you have been a here for me and never let me down you have proved to me you'll always be around...When hearts turn cold and blue skies turn
gray you are the one true love that I can depend on, and know that you are here to stay!

My friend, My love, My darling, My life I live for you and through my eyes you live for the world to see and embrace my one true love! And that is you HIP HOP!

I LOVE , I LIVE, SO THEREFORE I AM HIP HOP!

PROMISES

Promises, promises… what do they mean?
Just a promise I’ve never seen.
A promise never kept, a promise never heard!
Promising you’ll love me till the end of the bluebird.
Promising you’ll love me care for me, never CHEAT or LIE to me.
Promising to guide me comfort me for whatever comes my way.

You’ll always be this way?
What happened to those promises, never kept never seen.
Promises, promises what do they mean
Just a promise I’VE NEVER SEEN!

PAIN

One who suffers more at the expense of her peers,
One who lives life in the dark and runs away from her fears,
One who faces light of day with dark shades so no one would look her way,
One who see's things for what they really are, and runs and hides and goes
really far away that is to hide from the pain so she can maintain her dignity
and respect that she was told she had to gain!
Pain, why does it hide itself from the light, is it because it is a coward
is afraid to fight! I guess we will always wonder why?
We feel pain if physical or mental it's still a feeling we can't explain.
Why do we lie inside with pain & hurt and feelings we can't hide?
We try to move on and even try to pro-long the fear of getting hurt by those
we hold so near but we stop to look were they really there or did we dream and
fantasize that they really cared!

Should we stop and stare and take a long hard look at our own reflection because
sometimes you can't hide behind your expressions, it is written all over
your face and you don't have to say a word! And trust this they already HEARD!

"BLACK FLOWER"

When I met you, you were a bud in a black yard of dirt.
I dug you out and came to rescue you so you wouldn't wither and die.
I placed you like a potted plant and watered you and nurtured you like
you were a newborn baby.

I placed you in the sunlight so that you can grow. Then, I can put you in
a glass case so you would be protected from harm.

Patiently waiting for you to blossom and for some reason you keep loosing
your sunshine. I'm again waiting and waiting for what I know would be an
incredible masterpiece. When it blooms, people will come from miles around
"JUST TO TAKE A PEAK."

WHY WOMEN CRY

A little boy asked his mother, "Why are you crying?" "Because I'm a woman,"she told him. "I don't understand," he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will." Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?" "All women cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.

The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry. Finally he put in a call to God. When God got on the phone, he asked,"God, why do women cry so easily?"

God said: "When I made the woman she had to be special." I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort.

I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from her children.

I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining.

I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly.

I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart.

I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly.

And finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed.

"You see my son," said God, "the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart the place where love resides."
